The 2016 BMW X1 crossover that was recently revealed by the German automaker, will make its world debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. To be assembled at the company’s Chennai-based facility, the next-generation X1 will be launched in the Indian market sometime in Q1 - Q2, 2016.

Seen here’s a rendered image of the new BMW X1 M variant that features a more aerodynamic and bold body kit than the existing M-Sport package. It gets large air intakes, wider body kit, low profile tires and a quad exhaust system. The new-gen X1 is expected to be powered with a highly force-fed 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine that churns out a maximum power of 300bhp. Since, BMW’s new UKL platform is competent for an inline six-cylinder engine, a new engine could power the car. Though, the company hasn’t yet revealed the engine details of the vehicle.

There will be some mechanical updates as well as it gets all-new suspension unit, transverse engine layout and the standard FWD (front wheel drive) system. The new X1 is 135kgs lighter than the current model, thanks to the high-strength steel, aluminum bonnet and aluminum swivel bearings. With extended wheelbase (+90mm), width (21mm) and height (53mm), the new model will be more spacious than its predecessor. It will measure 4,439mm in length, 1,821mm in width, 1,598mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,670mm.

Inside, the car will get an all-new dashboard design, updated iDrive system (a 6.5-inch and a 8.8-inch display options) and various seats and trims customization options for new xLine, M Sport and Sport Line variants.
