MINI, the iconic British automotive marque and a subsidiary of BMW Group, has marked a successful maiden campaign in the country's premium auto market in 2012. As per reports, MINI India recorded sales of 302 models, which is quite impressive, considering its foray on Indian turf just last year. The stylish and uber-cool car maker entered the Indian auto market during January 2012 and offers its entire range via Completely Built-up Units (CBU) route for the domestic buyers.
Expressing his delight at MINI India's impressive 2012 maiden campaign in the country, Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India, quoted, “India happens to be the 100th country where MINI has established its presence. We were always confident that MINI’s cutting-edge spirit and fresh, fashionable styling will be loved and welcomed by its fans in India too. Since its launch in January 2012, MINI’s success in India has far-surpassed all expectations. We are growing steadily and our main focus is to successfully establish the MINI brand in India in its first years.”
Reportedly, MINI sold 143 units of its MINI Cooper hatch during 2012 calendar year, which makes it the company's best selling model in the country. Further, the auto maker sold 97 units of MINI Convertible and 62 units of MINI Countryman crossover in 2012.
Commenting on the brand image of MINI cars, he added, “No other car brand in the world is as exciting as MINI. Around the world, MINI has become a byword in the premium small car segment for expressive design, premium quality and unmistakable driving fun. MINI has established itself as a unique brand, associated with tradition and irresistible charm that wins over all age groups. MINI’s innovative profile has enabled the brand to win over a trend-conscious and quality-oriented target group.”
At present, four models are offered at MINI retail outlets, namely MINI Cooper, MINI Cooper S, MINI Cooper Convertible and MINI Cooper S Countryman. These stylish sports cars are offered with powerful petrol engines, mated to a six speed automatic transmission system.
MINI India has four exclusive dealerships in the country at the moment- Deutsche Motoren and Bird Automotive in Delhi (National Capital Region), KUN Exclusive in Hyderabad and Infinity Cars in Mumbai. The company has plans of increasing its total number of retail outlets to 8 on the Indian turf by the end of 2014.
