The DC Avanti, initially launched as a prototype at the 2012 Auto Expo to fill in the void of the Indian sports car segment, was back in the 2014 Auto Expo. This time, it came with its production version featuring a number of changes with designer interiors. With promises of launching the car very soon to the Auto Expo, the release date of the car has been continuously postponed and the launch date has been delayed till the next year. Having surpassed the Avanti-Test protocol at several occasions, it is seemingly proceeding towards overthrowing the Scorpio on popularity with great deal of spy shots.
While doing its run on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Dr. Mohan Ranawade got a hold on those spy shots and proclaims that the car averages 160-170 Km per hour on the Express way. Purely eccentric in its customization, the design is thoroughly pleasing to the naked eye and the two-seater arrangement brings in freshness to the automobile segment. Retaining the original curves and pronounced wheel arcs, DC made some required changes to the prototype. It revised the headlights, introduced new tail lights and subsequently added ORVM turn indicators and new air intakes at the rear.
Powered by a Ford sourced 2.0 litre direct injection, with VVT turbocharged petrol engine, produces 240 HP of power at 5500 RPM. It is also paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The car weighs 1562 kilograms and rides on 19-inch alloy wheels with a braking power derived from 330 mm ventilated discs in the front and the rear. The sport car can sprint from 0-100 Km/Hr in under 7 seconds. The more powerful planned Avanti with a V6 engine will produce around 400 HP in the car’s lifecycle.
The automobile is slated to be around the figure of Rs. 35 lakhs and Avanti will be one of its kinds at its price range. It offers stiff competition to BMW 1-Series, Mercedes A-Class and the Audi A3 Sedan in the same price range. No doubt the rest provides better brand value, but being made in India, the users can use the performance and be distinctive on the design and their choices.
