'Make in India' initiative by the Indian government has encouraged many Indian and international companies to consider investments in the country. Supporting the initiative Ford India has announced its plans to export India-made EcoSport compact SUV to the US market sometime in last quarter of 2017. The company has reportedly already begun developing the facelifted trim due to be exported to American markets.
Hinting on export possibility for India-made Ecosport, Ford Motor Chief Executive Mark Fields recently said to sources, “In business, you never rule out from the beginning certain opportunities. But it all comes down to making sure first and foremost that wherever the product is manufactured, you want to make sure that it is high quality and meets the expectations of consumers.”
Sources have indicated that the company plans on producing as many as about 90,000 units every year, which is indeed more than the numbers sold even in India. However, the Thailand facility has also emerged as a threat for the India-based plant, as they too have been eying for Ecosport export orders to Canadian and US markets.
