The onslaught of fast cars in the country is set to continue as firms from Unites States, Germany, United Kingdom and Italy are going to go head-to-head in the battle for more market share. Now, according to a latest report, EXIM records claim that models of Ford Mustang have been brought to India for testing and R&D. This does nothing but add fuel to speculations that the iconic car will be launched in India in coming years.

Sources suggest that the model brought to India landed in Chennai and was the Ford Mustang GT Premium Fastback. This car is fitted with a V8 5.0-litre powertrain capable of developing 430 BHP and top torque of 542 Nm. The engine comes with options of six-speed automatic and manual transmission options. Recently, in an interview to Bloomberg, the Ford Mustang Engineer Tom Barnes said, “We’re going to sell to over 120 countries and we’re going right hand drive as well as left hand and we’re offering fastback and convertible but in the end the car is truly a Mustang.”

Should the Ford Mustang be launched in India, it will be brought through the Completely Built Unit (CBU) and could be priced in excess of Rs. 70 lakh, considering all the import costs that will be involved.
