Land Rover, the well appreciated British car maker, seems to be working on the development of a faster version of Discovery Sport, which will square off against the likes of Audi SQ5. Expressing his views at the sidelines of 2014 Paris Motor Show, the Director of Programs at Land Rover, Murray Dietsch hinted that a diesel-powered version of the newest Land Rover utility vehicle is on the cards of the company.
The Design Director at Land Rover, Gerry McGovern mentioned that the auto maker is developing flagship versions across its three main models, namely Discovery, Range Rover and Defender. Sources close to the development stated that the positioning of these models could be similar to that of Mercedes AMG. If manufactured, the halo variant is expected to retain the versatility and potential of the Discovery brand.
Industry experts are of a view that the auto maker could utilize its SVR performance brand to develop the faster version of Discovery Sport. Land Rover insists that the halo version of a particular car needs to be same, with the philosophy of pillar it belongs. For instance, the Discovery Sport variant should must have some degree of versatility and potential, which is associated with the Discovery line-up. It must be noted that the auto maker has already introduced Range Rover Sport SVR, which happens to be its first product to have the SVR moniker, and Jaguar Land Rover has hinted at more high-performance models in this range.
