The Mahindra KUV100 has the new range of mFalcon range of engines and this is made available in both diesel and petrol. This is the first Mahindra-made petrol engine that has been built from the ground-up. Mahindra claims that these new engines have been built to deliver high low-end torque for peppy performance. The petrol and diesel both come with micro-hybrid technology, which is the first in its segment. The diesel engine also comes with a multi-drive function with Power and Eco modes.
Petrol Engine: The mFalcon G80, which is the petrol engine on the KUV100 is an all-aluminium three-cylinder petrol engine that has dual variable vale timing for better performance and fuel efficiency. Mahindra states that it has excellent low-end torque that should help quick getaways. The engine has a displacement of 1198cc and it churns out 82bhp at 5500rpm and 115Nm of peak torque at 3500rpm. The ARAI claimed fuel efficiency of the KUV100 is 18.15kmpl. This engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
Diesel Engine: The diesel engine is christened the mFalcon D75. This is an all-new engine too. The D75 has a displacement of 1199cc and it churns about 77bhp of power at 3750rpm and 190Nm at 1750-2250rpm. This is also a three-cylinder engine, the four-cylinder version of which is used on the Mahindra-owned Ssangyong’s new SUV, the Tivoli. The diesel engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission as well. There’s no talk about an AMT ‘box for either engines just yet.
Both the new mFalcon engines powering the new Mahindra KUV100 will be manufactured in Mahindra & Mahindra’s Chakan plant.
