Minors who have taken to street motorcycle racing have been giving a tough time for Hyderabad traffic police. To tackle this issue, police have suggested that driving license of juvenile offender's parents be suspended as a penalty to curb this menace. Over the weekend, cops had reportedly rounded up as many as 95 youngsters, of which many of them were minors, were racing on the busy Necklace Road. Some of the stretches that cops have identified as a frequent weekend racing spots are – ORR, Jubilee Hills and Gandipet locality in Hyderabad.
Speaking more on the occasion, VB Kamalasan Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Central Zone, said, “It is the responsibility of parents to monitor the activities of their children. If we find any minor boys resorting to bike racing on the streets, we will not just counsel the boys in the presence of their family members, but also recommend cancellation of their parent's driving licenses in case of a repeat offense.”
The police believe that parents need to be more responsible for their children's actions and the move shall be deterrent for minor riders. The police is also considering drunken driving cases strictly and suspend the license of repeat offenders and also imprison them if required.
