The Tata Glade, codenamed the Kite hatchback, has been recently spotted during its test round in the Himalayan range. Before finally launching it in the market, the home-grown automaker wants to make sure that the vehicle suits all sorts of terrains. The Tata Glade, based on the XO platform, might replace the ageing Indica eV2 in India.

The small hatchback will be powered with a new 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine and the Bolt’s 1.2-litre petrol engine. Mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox, the oil-burner will churn out a maximum power of 64bhp with a peak torque of 140Nm. If reports are to be believed, Tata Motors might introduce the Glade petrol with an optional AMT (automated manual transmission) or ECS (electronic clutch module). However, there is no clarity which one of these two will finally come the hatchback.

The Glade is likely to get Tata's new signature grille with the ‘Humanity Line’ running across the headlamps at the front fascia. Whereas, its rear profile will be completely different from any Tata cars available in India. It will feature an integrated spoiler, sloping rear windshield and the defogger in circular pattern. The Tata Glade will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Chevrolet Beat and others in the league.
