Tata Nano petrol model may have been in the news recently for all the wrong reasons but there are still thousands of happy Nano customers in the country. Now the “People’s Car” is ready to be launched in the diesel version in India and has been spied testing as reported by BS Motoring. Tata had announced at the Delhi Auto Expo 2010 earlier this year that the company is working with Bosch Auto to develop the diesel engine for the its sub-compact car.

Now the diesel engine sits at the rear placed even below the petrol engine placement. It is expected that the diesel model will feature a 1-cylinder direct injection 650cc diesel power train. The gearbox will remain the same as in the petrol model. Ratan Tata has said to the media in the past that the Nano diesel will be available “sooner than expected.”
