A group of fourteen students undergoing three-year Dual Apprenticeship course at the Volkswagen Academy India have built a car that fights fire. This vehicle has been built as a part of their final year project, and it will be used by the Safety Department of Volkswagen Pune. The students lent help from Pilot Hall team at Volkswagen Pune Plant that looks after the experimental projects.
The firefighting car built by students will be utilised on a daily basis by Fire and Safety Department for inspecting the plant and moving materials. Students used parts and components form Cross Polo and Volkswagen Vento to build the firefigting car.
To keep the costs low, scrapped parts and components from various production departments of the Pune Plant were utilised in this project. However, to render a different look, aplenty tweaks were made to the body of the vehicle. Underpinning Vento’s basic design, numerous fabrications were made from B-pillar until the tailgate to bestow a ‘pick-up’ design to the vehicle. Powering the car is a 1.6 litre TDI engine that generates robust power and torque output. For effortless loading and unloading of the materials from the rear, students got the tailgate fabricated with hinges towards the bottom.
Scrapped parts and components from different departments of Pune facility were used in the project to confine the cost to minimum.
