      Zoomcar Enters Chennai; Plans to Have 3,000 Cars to its Fleet This Year

      Zoomcar, a Bengaluru-based self-drive car rental company, has now entered Chennai. At the launch event, the company announced that it is planning to have more than 3,000 cars to its fleet by the end of 2015. With these new vehicles, the company is now aiming to expand its presence to Tier-II and Tier-III cities. Just so you know, the company currently has 1000 cars in its fleet, and most of them are owned by the company itself.

      After Pune, Bengaluru and Chennai, Zoomcar will launch its rental car services in bigger cities like Mumbai and New Delhi. The company has plans to add 10 Tier-II and Tier-III cities, with more than a million population, to its network in coming years. For the service expansion project, Zoomcar has raised USD 11 million funds, from the former CFO of Infosys Mohandas Pai and former US Secretary Lawrence Summers.

      On the launch event in Chennai, Zoomcar Chief Executive Officer Greg Moran said, "We will be taking the total cars to 3,000 from the present 1,000 cars. Majority of the cars are owned by us. Our plan is to add 10 cities in the coming year, including Mumbai and New Delhi,"
