BMW has planned a string of launches for the Indian car market, after BMW X5’s grand launch on May 29, 2014, the company is gearing up to roll out new models in the domestic market. The official announcement came from the head honcho of the company, Mr. Philipp Von Sahr at the launch of X5 that the company will spawn new cars in India this year. Among the new launches, BMW M3 and BMW M4 are included that are likely to be spin off in the upcoming months. On the other hand BMW i8 and new generation MINI could be launched during the festive season.
Both M3 sedan and new M4 Coupe will come equipped with the six-in-line, turbocharged unit. A 3.0 litre BMW M twin-turbo engine will be housed in the new BMW M3 that generates a pinnacle power of 425 Bhp along with a peak torque of 550 Nm. Power will be transmitted to the rear wheels through either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Use of carbon fibre and plastics help curbing weight of the new M3. BMW’s new M3 will compete with the Mercedes C63 AMG and other AMG variants. M3 will be brought to India as a completely built unit.
During festive season, i8 hybrid sportcar and new generation MINI will be launched. The new i8 ws unveiled globally at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Under the hood, a 1.5 litre, three cylinder gasoline engine with twin-turbocharging will be loaded. The 1.5 litre petrol engine is capable of engendering a maximum power of 231 Hp along with a top torque of 320 Nm. The electric motor helps produce increased power and torque output by 131 Hp and 250 Nm. Robust motor enables the new i8 to rush to 100 kmph from nil within 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 kmph.
New generation MINI will also Go on sale in India during the festive season. BMW had showcased the new MINI in November, 2013. BMW will offer new MINI in three engine options for the European market including a 1.5 litre, three cylinder gasoline and diesel engine and a 2.0 litre, four cylinder petrol powerplant.
