Harley recalls 46000 models for a possible Clutch Malfunction

A huge setback has hit the famous two-wheeler manufacturer Harley-Davidson recently with 46000 Electra Guide, Police Electra Glide, Road Glide, Road King and Street Glide models manufactured between 2014 and 2015 being recalled. The reason for this huge recall is said to be issues with the clutch assembly.

It has been found out that the motorcycles have defective clutch master cylinders, which might result in disengaging of clutches while using gears. This is more prominent when the bike has been parked for a long time. There might be chances of a crash to occur in such cases according to the NHTSA, USA. It might lead to a situation where the rider loses control of the bike while starting the bike in gear. Harley-Davidson also said that the gas bubble formation might lead to improper clutch engagement. It has been reported that the company will re-build parts of the problem-causing components after flushing the cylinder. The company came to know about the problem owing to a series of customer complaints.

The company, when asked to comment about this, said, “First and foremost, we apologize to our customers for this issue. We’re riders, too, so share in the frustration. Customer safety is our first priority.”

Harley is also recalling some 9000 units of XG500 and XG750 of the 2015th edition. Some of these models have been produced without a reflector assembly at the rear and thus do not abide by the US guidelines. Dealers will replace it for the affected customers. Though, there have not been any reports for the models in India, you may cross check with your respective dealers for more information.
