      Hertz electrification reaches China

      The Hertz Corporation has stretched its arms more and expanded its global electric vehicle initiative into China, earning the title of being the first rental car company to propose electric vehicles (EVs) on three continents. Hertz has shook hands with GE Energy Industrial Solutions to make its debut of electric vehicles cavalcade to the country, which also comprises of the co-location of electric vehicles and GE EV infrastructure.

      Hertz also went into an agreement to take part in the China (Shanghai) International EV Pilot City to give force to its EV rental programme. The approach carries plans like building out the infrastructure across the Jiading district of Shanghai to give it a start, in order to make EVs accessible to corporations, local government and the general public, as well as to highlight the pros of electric vehicles in a major way.

      Mark P Frissora, Hertz chairman and chief executive officer conveyed the point of views of both the ends, regarding the programme saying that “China has committed to rapidly expand electric vehicle travel and Hertz is committed to supporting the important EV Pilot City programme,”

      The global car rental company Hertz in addition to the above deal, have initiated a partnership with BYD Auto to blend the sales of electric vehicles and its leasing as a commendable solution for MNC and government agencies in metropolitan Chinese cities. It is also to emphasise and publicise new energy applications to instigate and entice the Chinese car industry and further develop the EV marketplace in China.

      Frissora added that “Working with our existing rental car network in China and partners like GE, we are committed to helping build the necessary EV infrastructure in China and to create a new transportation solution that employs the latest technology and harnesses innovations being launched in China today.”

      Earlier this year, Shanghai was selected as the International EV Pilot City by the Chinese government and Jiading district of Shanghai as the electric vehicle international demonstration zone, with the aim to swell up the public awareness regarding electric cars concept and create strong bonds to enhance such projects within the country.

      In its first year, the Hertz Global EV initiative has grown to a market presence in more than ten cities, offering a humongous amount of electric vehicles from manufacturers like BYD Auto as well as Nissan, GM, Mitsubishi, Renault and Tesla.

      Current partners include auto manufacturers, energy suppliers, insurance companies and other EV supply chain participants. Hertz is the first rental car company to sign a MoU to become a partner. The agreement supports the objective for the promotion of EVs in China and will serve as a foundation for further innovation and development of the infrastructure.
