BMW, the largest selling luxury car brand in the Indian market, is mulling over the option of launching an all new premium hatchback under the ‘Mini’ brand in the Indian market within next 2 to 3 years. With rise in the income level of a vast pool of Indian middle class buyers, the premium hatchback segment has emerged as one of the most preferred segments for international car buyers to launch their cars in the Indian market.

Speaking to the Financial Chronicle recently, Andreas Schaaf, BMW India president said, “A decision to bring hatchback MINI brand car into India will be taken within a year or so by the board of directors and I hope Mini brand car will make a splash in India during my tenure.” According to him, BMW has maintained the top position in the luxury car segment for two years in a row. The company accounts over 40 percent market share in segment of luxury cars in the Indian market.
