Swedish suspension system manufacturer Ohlins had recently conducted a recall for the TTX36 and steering dampers. Though no bikes were recalled initially, Japanese automaker Yamaha recalled a model to fix the rear suspension system. Now, Yamaha’s compatriot Honda has become the second firm to stage a recall for one of its models.

In an official statement, Yamaha said that it would be recalling Yamaha YZF-R1M models, which are on sale in the Canadian and Australian markets, as they featured faulty shock absorbers from Ohlins. Reports suggest that this recall could trigger a series of similar decisions by other manufacturers. Honda has done the same by recalling the CBR1000RR SP bikes that have been produced in 2015 and 2014.

Ohlins released a statement regarding the launch of this recall, which said, “The piston rod nut may have been tightened before the piston had the correct full metal-to-metal contact. This could result in the nut loosening, which would prevent proper rear suspension action, and could cause poor handling that may result in a crash.”

Some of the aftermarket units that fall under this recall by Ohlins include TTX RT, TTX GP and TTX36MKII. Manufacturers of bikes with faulty units, Yamaha and Honda, have offered to repair the issues for free.
