Honda Motor Company has recalled around 690000 cars in the United States of America and Japan in an attempt to replace the air bag inflators, manufactured by Takata Corp. This was done after the US had ordered the company to expand its recalls. The third biggest automobile manufacturer in Japan, Honda disclosed the recalls simultaneously in Washington and Tokyo.

Among the total recalls, approximately 340000 were registered in Japan and the remaining 350000 were registered in the United States according to the reports from Honda. The company has faced the Takata-related recalls from a long time. The number of recalls because of this Takata-related issue now reaches five million models since the last month’s recall. The overall recalls for Takata-problems have now reached 20 million vehicles on a global scale since 2008. Its investigators had spotted two new glitches in the inflators in the sample models. However, it is yet to be decoded why the problem occurred.

Honda however, did not expand its recall in Canada and it is still at slightly more than 700000 models. Also, the customers will be reminded of the safety issues and given a fresh correspondence.

Takata has been in the news for global recall of several millions of cars because of disastrous air bag inflators, which could deploy with too much force, thus spraying metal fragments. There have been six deaths caused by faulty inflators, which involved Honda cars.

Takata has last week agreed on the terms with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to double its US-based recalls to nearly 34 million vehicles, which spanned across 11 car manufacturers. According to Honda, the latest Japanese recall included 80000 cars with driver-side air bag inflators. Approximately 260000 models will be added to the previous call. It is expected that more cars will be facing a recall in the coming months due to this issue.
