Buoyed by the overwhelming response for the new generation Elite i20 and Grand i10, Hyundai is now aiming to enter into compact SUV and MPV segments in the next 2 years. The company will launch the Elite i20 based crossover and much-awaited ix25 compact SUV in 2015. Whereas, Hyundai's compact MPV will enter the market in 2016.
Hyundai has showcased MPV concepts at different platforms across the globe, and it is speculated that one concept will see a production line specifically for the Indian market. If reports are to be believed, the compact MPV will go on sale in the country in 2016, while the 2015 is reserved for ix25, Elite i20 and facelifted versions of Verna and Elantra. The exact details about the upcoming compact MPV are yet to be announced, but the vehicle will come with a 7-seat layout.
It was speculated that Hyundai is working on a compact MPV based on the Grand i10 platform; however, nothing concrete on the same have been revealed by the maker. The vehicle will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. Both engines will be paired to manual transmissions driving power to front wheels of the car. The seven-seater Hyundai will compete against the likes of Honda Mobilio, Maruti Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy, Toyota Innova, Nissan Evalia and soon-to-be launched Renault Lodgy MPV.
