Ahead of its official launch in India next year, test mule of the Jeep Compass has been spotted once again in the country indicating on it possible launch sometime soon. The made-in-India SUV will sit between the Renegade and the Cherokee SUV. The SUV will be manufactured at the FCA's Ranjangaon facility.
On the design aspect, the new Jeep Compass shares the design language of the Grand Cherokee with muscular looks, square wheel arches and unique LED tail lamps. The interior also borrows traits from the Cherokee with a neat looking cabin in black and grey finish, and premium upholstery. The locally made SUV will also be exported to international markets. The new Jeep Compass will get front-wheel drive system as standard, while the all-wheel drive system will be optional right from launch. In terms of features it will be loaded with 8.4mm touchscreen, push-button start, a dual panoramic sunroof and rear aircon vents.
Under the hood, the Jeep Compass might get a 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engine option for India. As for US and other developed markets, the SUV will be offered with a naturally aspirated 2.4-litre engine. The vehicle will be available in six-speed manual and a nine-speed automatic transmission option. However, we can expect a range of powertrain options, as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has stated that there will be around 17 powertrain options that will be offered on the new Jeep Compass. More details about the upcoming SUV will be known in the coming days.
