Car buyers in future might have to produce a valid parking space certificate in order to get his or her vehicle registered. Venkaiah Naidu, union urban development minister is reportedly keen on having the proposal in place. Talks are underway for the same with the transport ministry. As the government is working towards having a mechanism in place, no specific timeline has been announced for now.
It is unclear if only the new four-wheelers will have to produce a valid parking ticket. However, the decision will help to a certain extent by decongesting roads in the city where random street parking is a frequent sight. The government has also stated that, there is a considerable shortage of parking spaces even in tier-I and tier-II. Moreover, the constantly rising number of new vehicles and poor planning by real estate construction companies, is further aggravating the problem.
Reports suggest that mere introducing new laws will only be beneficial to a certain extent, however for complete success, the government will also have to improve the country’s public transport system. More details regarding the same will be known in the coming days.
