Fiat India that recently introduced its performance brand Abarth, is now planning to launch the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee in the country. Both the vehicles have been spied testing without camouflage in Maharashtra. Earlier there were rumors about the company’s plan of introducing Jeep brand in 2014, since the company had finalized dealership numbers. Recently, the company announced an investment of 1, 774 crore for its joint venture production plant in Ranjangaon. According to a report, Fiat might launch the Jeep product lineup (as CBU) in India by the end of 2015, while the production will take place in 2017.
Powering the Jeep Wrangler Sport will be a 3.6-litre V6 engine that produces a maximum power of 240bhp and 380Nm of torque. It will be paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. A 2.8-litre diesel engine will also be on offer, but only on the Wrangler Unlimited 4-door variant. This engine puts out 197bhp of power and 460Nm of torque. Whereas, the Grand Cherokee will get a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine that will be capable to deliver 247bhp and a peak torque of 570Nm. This powertrain will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with Command-Trac Shift-on-Fly Part-Time 4WD system.
Being a premium product, the Grand Cherokee is expected to be priced within the range of Rs. 40 lakh – 45 lakh, while the Jeep Wrangler might cost between Rs. 20 lakh – 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
