At the moment, Mahindra can only sell the TUV300, Quanto and the Verito in New Delhi. What the company is doing at the moment is looking at getting petrol versions of the Scorpio and the XUV500. Dr Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra and Mahindra stated, “We are already exporting the 2.2-litre petrol engines on the Scorpio and can introduce them in the Indian car market too. Now, as there hasn’t been much demand for petrol Scorpio and buyers in India do not buy petrol engines for SUVs generally, we didn’t consider it as an option for our market.”
Mahindra will get a 2.0-litre petrol engine for the XUV500 and the 2.2-litre Scorpio petrol engine. At the moment, the company is looking at ramping up the production of petrol engines to cater to Indian car market. “We will be introducing the new petrol engines on these SUVs, but we cannot be doing it overnight. This will take sometime to do it.”
