Maruti Suzuki’s much awaited SX4 S-Cross, rumored to be named the Across, has been caught testing with a ‘1.6’ badge on the bootlid and ‘DDIS’ on the side fenders. The badges suggest that the crossover might get the Fiat-sourced, 1,598cc, diesel engine.
The European-spec model of the S-Cross is available on both petrol and diesel engine options. Its diesel unit (1.6) churns out a maximum power of 120PS with a torque of 320Nm. The powertrain is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. The petrol variant, on the other hand, delivers 120PS, while yielding a peak torque of 156Nm. The engine is mated either with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT transmission.
The S-Cross aka Across will also get a small 1.3-litre DDIS diesel engine on lower trims, which is currently used for several Maruti Suzuki cars in India. The S-Cross will be launched in four variants – V, V+, Z and Z+ - similar to the Ciaz.
The top-model is likely to be equipped with dual airbags, Maruti’s SmartPlay infotainment, alloy wheels, projector headlights, navigation system, ABS (anti-lock braking system) and EBD (electronic brake-force distribution).
The Maruti Suzuki SX4 S-Cross is expected to be priced between Rs. 8 lakh – Rs. 11 lakh (ex-showroom), and will take on the likes of the Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio, Nissan Terrano and upcoming Hyundai ix25. Maruti Suzuki might launch the crossover sometime in Q2 – Q3 2015 in India.
