Maruti Suzuki, India's largest car manufacturer is planning to launch a series of new and facelifted products in the country in the next 24 months. At the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, the maker showcased the SX4 S-Cross crossover. The vehicle was scheduled to Go on sale in January this year; however, the launch delayed and now it will be launched in April.
Set to rival against the likes of Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano, the SX4 S-Cross features a crossover type styling instead of an upright SUV stance. The company has slightly tweaked the concept shown at Delhi Auto Expo to make it road compatible. To offer a sporty touch, the vehicle has high ground clearance, black plastic cladding all around the body and metal scuff plates under the bumper. The company might also introduce the 'Allgrip' all-wheel drive system.
Dimensionally, the S-Cross is 4,300mm long, 1,765mm wide and 1,575mm tall and it comes with a large wheelbase of 2,600mm. The top-end variants will be equipped with LED daytime running lamps, leather seats and steering cover, automatic air conditioning, etc. The car will also share components with other Maruti Suzuki models, which will help the carmaker to keep its price competitive.
The Suzuki S-Cross SX4 will be offered in two diesel and one petrol engine. The oil burners will be -1.6-litre multi-jet (118bhp and 320Nm) and a 1.3-litre MJD (89bhp and 200Nm). The gasoline model will get a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine producing 120bhp and 156Nm of torque.
