Toyota, the Japanese automaker, is aggressively working on the second-generation Fortuner, and planning to launch it by early 2016 in the Indian market. Though, the company hasn't officially revealed the car, spy pictures of the new-gen model are doing rounds on internet. The new model receives major cosmetic alterations and some mechanical updates.

Ditching the conventional body-on-frame, the new-gen Fortuner looks more premium than the existing model. The SUV gets a pronounced chrome grille and slim and longer headlight pods at the front end. However, the bonnet height remains unchanged.

The new model features a sharply stretched windscreen, similar to the new Innova. The curve on bold shoulder crease, above the rear wheel arches, adds more appeal to its side profile. The pillars are removed from the rear profile, and it gets a completely new look with a wraparound rear windscreen.

The new Fortuner is likely be based on the modified IMV platform, which will be lighter and stiffer that the existing one. The wheelbase might get longer, and offer slightly more spacious interior. The new model will be safer than the existing one, since Toyota might update the braking system of the SUV and offer additional safety features.

Coming to the engine, the existing 3.0-litre and 2.5-litre engines are likely to be carried over to the new model as well. However, the 3.0-litre engine is expected to be tuned for 187bhp power output. The new Toyota Fortuner will compete against the upcoming all-new Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet Trailblazer.
