A few weeks ago, Suzuki Motorcycle India had removed Inazuma from their official website. The web world had been in debate about whether the bike had been officially discontinued in the Indian market. However, if the recent reports are to be trusted, the company will cease the sale of this model in India from March, 2015.
The bike was initially launched with an aggressive price tag of 3.1 lakhs INR (ex-showroom, Delhi), yet it failed to attract customers. Fans, who were looking for an entry-level performance bike, were really attracted to the out-dated design of Inazuma. Additionally, the super-high price tag was another reason why customers turned away from the bike. Gauging the responses, the manufacturer slashed the price of the bike by a huge 1 lakh INR, a few months back. Though, this was a conscious effort on the part of the manufacturer to make the bike more affordable, the sales did not Go up. Finally, the manufacturer had to decide to stop the sale of the bike because there was no point of selling the bike at this price.
The bike is powered by a 248 cc parallel twin engine and is sold as a Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) model in India. The engine is capable of producing a power of 24 bhp and a torque output of 22 Nm, with the transmission duties done by a six-speed gearbox. Though, the mechanistic details were quite commendable for a commuter, the excessive high price and out-dated design were not in favour of the bike, which affected its sales.
