The i20 hatchback from Korean car-maker Hyundai has been a strong brand name in the Indian automobile circuit. For a while now, many spy pictures have emerged stating a possible launch of this stylish i20 hatchback from Hyundai. On many occasions, sources have captured a short video footage of the hatchback being tested on Indian roads. Initially it was believed that the vehicle might be launched sometime in next year, but fresh reports indicate that the vehicle might be launched sometime ahead of festive season this year.
As per sources, the face-lifted i20 hatchback shall available in petrol and diesel variants. The petrol version is expected to be powered by a 1.2 Litre Kappa 2 engine that generates about 83 PS of power, whereas the diesel version is expected to be powered by 1.4 Litre engine that generates about 90 PS of power. It is anticipated that all the engines may be mated to a 5 speed or a 6 speed manual transmission. Reports also suggest a possibility of 4 speed automatic transmission being used in a petrol version.
The car appears to carry a longer wheelbase, thereby providing better cabin space in comparison to the existing version. Interiors seems to be left untouched for now, but better color shading and quality dashboard can be expected from the mass scale production version. At first look the front grill seems to positioned at a lower angle. At the rear, the car sports tailgate-mounted spoiler, turn indicators on the rear-view mirrors as seen in the existing line, has also been retained in this upcoming version.
Detailed specifications on the i20 face-lift is awaited for now and Hyundai has chosen to remain tight lipped on the pricing aspect. The newer version may be loaded with smooth flowing Fluidic design philosophy and may be a tough contender in the hatchback segment.
