Yamaha R25 was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show last year and ever since, it has created a huge buzz among avid riders. Amidst prolonged hype surrounding this bike, rumour mill is generating news that it has now been dubbed as YZF-R25. This motorcycle is believed to be based on the company's MotoGP racing bike, called YZR-M1 and the new nomenclature seems to be derived from its sibling only. It is expected to be an authentic sportsbike and will mark its advent in the domestic market later this year.

Yamaha YZF-R25 will be powered by a twin-cylinder 250 cc engine, producing a decent power output. 6-speed manual gearbox will be a standard feature. Special attention has been given to the designing of this bike and the framework has been made lighter so that it moves more swiftly on roads. Chassis is believed to be tubular and is assisted by telescopic front suspension to smoothly engulf uneven terrains. Disc brakes are provided at front and rear tyres, and it is also speculated that the option of Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) will also be introduced.

Sources are surmising that the body layout of this bike matches Yamaha R15, which was introduced a few years back. Also, reports are suggesting that this new bike will fill in the shoes of its latter version and will try to achieve similar feats, which its predecessor recorded. Also, the model is believed to be offered in a price bracket of Rs. 2.5 lakh – Rs. 3 lakh, making it a stiff contender against Kawasaki Ninja 250R and Honda CBR 250R. Interestingly, its rivals have been performing efficiently on Indian roads and have gradually become the primary choice of sportsbike enthusiasts.

Recently it was unveiled that Yamaha has witnessed a 34 per cent rise in sales with a total of 6,51,487 units being sold in 2013. Company officials dedicated this success to its large portfolio, comprising a multitude of scooters and motorcycles. The auto maker also asserted that its wide dealership network has also contributed equally in this steep inflation. Yamaha Ray and Ray Z models have been highly in demand in the domestic market and similar trend is seen in its motorcycle sales as well. The company is considered a trustworthy brand among prospective buyers and it has always strived hard to achieve new statistics. With its upcoming Yamaha YZF-R25, the company is certain to appease its large fan base, and Indian auto market will soon witness a new toy blistering over the streets.
