      Hyundai ix25 compact SUV to be called Creta

      Hyundai India, today, announced the introduction of its upcoming compact SUV in the second half of this year. To be called Creta, the vehicle will be sold in several international markets including India.

      Being an "influential global model", the Creta SUV will represent the automaker in the compact SUV segment. It will also help the company to extend its global approach, and reach out potential customers. The company’s official said that the SUV’s name - 'Creta' - is simple and easy to remember. The pronunciation of Creta reminds the term 'creative'.

      HMIL said, "Hyundai Creta" will be an influential global model for the Hyundai Motor brand in one of the fastest-growing vehicle segments, helping the company to reach out to many more consumers in new and established international markets". The manufacturer further said that "The 'Creta' name is "simple and easy to remember". "Pronunciation of Creta evokes welcome similarities with the term creative". 

      Already on sale in the Chinese market, the Hyundai Creta is based on the Hyundai ix25, and measures 4.27 meters in length. Powering the SUV will be the Verna’s 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines that are mated to 5-speed and 6-speed manual gearboxes respectively. A 1.4-litre diesel powertrain might also be on offer. 

      Upon its launch, the Hyundai Creta SUV will rival against the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Mahindra Scorpio and Maruti’s upcoming SX4 S-Cross.  Hyundai’s Global SUV is likely to be offered within the price range of Rs. 8 lakh – Rs. 10 lakh.
