We all are aware about the finesse of China in creating clones of famous things in the world. It even created the Sphinx as the main attraction of a theme park. Now, it has come up with an exact copy of the renowned Land Rover Evoque and that too for an equivalent price of Rs. 13.34 lakhs. That is around Rs. 27 lakhs less than the price at which the original one is sold. Named Land Wind X7, they even borrowed a part of company’s name too.

The A, B, C and D-pillar along with the headlights and the overall dimensions are exact copies of the original British superstar. What it lacks is the use of quality material and the reliable engine of the Evoque. Though it does not have the same engine that does not mean it has a cheap 1.0 litre mill. The X7 borrows a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine from Mitsubishi which is good enough for 190 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. They have managed to make it 75 kg lighter than the original one and because of extensive use of plastics, it weighs just 1775 kg.

The rip-off is a result of the popularity of Land Rover cars in China. That popularity is on decline currently as the company faced 6.6% fall in revenue in the recently ended quarter. China accounts for 20% of their sales and a poor performance there has resulted in great losses for the company. Tata Motors has been depending on JLR for improved financial numbers and this time even the British brand has let them down. As a result Tata’s Q1 net was 49% below of what it was last year.
