Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has revealed plans of launching its recent product, Quanto, in the South African market. Quanto, a compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) launched by M&M in November 2012, has received a lot of attention in the Indian market. By now, the company has received over 12,000 bookings for the model since its launch in the country.
The Quanto comes with a starting price of Rs. 5.99 lakhs in the country. It is believed that this vehicle will be met with success similar to that received in India. Here it is considered as an option for those customers who may be looking to purchase diesel hatchbacks and entry-level sedans. The vehicle is expected to deliver good fuel economy and be priced competitively for the South African market.
The Quanto has been built on a Mahindra Ingenio platform. Distinguishing features of this vehicle includes a high mounted stop lamp, roof rails and muscular wheel arches. Interiors and features of this model are similar to those seen on the big Xylo. Angle of the rear bench was contracted and two foldable seats were included in the rear.
When showcased at the Sao Paulo Show in 2012, the Mahindra Quanto displayed a 2.2 litre diesel engine. Currently, the Indian version is powered by a 1.5 litre powerhouse, generating 101 bhp. In Africa, the model will be available with two seats rows and a more refined engine than the Indian version.
