The mid-sized sedan segment in India is highly competitive and limited in choice at the same time. It is highly competitive in the sense that new models keep getting launched and sustenance has become tough. However, it has also been seen that the top two spots, for long, have been occupied by Honda City and Hyundai Verna. Maruti Suzuki launched the Ciaz model to compete with both these models and it has started well, registering good sales figures. Let’s take a look at how the Ciaz stands up to Hyundai Verna in terms of features and mechanical configuration.

Be it the promotion in print, on the Internet or on television, Maruti Suzuki made a visible and dedicated effort to single out the style factor in Ciaz, which was really imported due to the competition at hand. India’s number one passenger car manufacturer also paid a lot of attention on the sophistication of Ciaz’s interiors. Some of the main features of the interiors of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz include Smartplay infotainment system, reverse parking display assisted by camera, keyless start/stop, steering mounted controls and automatically controlled air conditioning system. In terms of safety, this car comes with built-in Suzuki Total Effective Control Technology (STECT), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and dual airbags.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is available in both petrol and diesel versions, which are powered by 1.4-litre and 1.3-litre engines, respectively. These variants of Ciaz are capable of churning out power levels of around 93 BHP and 89 BHP, respectively. While the diesel version of this car offers a mileage of 26.2 kmpl, petrol variant delivers 20.73 kmpl (manual transmission).

A mere look at the Hyundai Verna is enough to establish that the car is all class, especially in terms of style. The new 4S Fluidic architecture lends a lot of grace and elegance to its exteriors, which feature sharp projector headlamps, chrome outside door handles and hood character lines. In terms of interiors, Hyundai Verna features ergonomically designed seats with premium upholstery, two-din audio system, supervision cluster with Blue illumination and full auto air conditioning. Utility features available in Verna include Electro Chromic Mirror, Tilt adjustable driver seat, walk-in ergo lever, AUX & USB ports and rain sensing wipers.

Safety is a big plus with the Hyundai Verna, which features the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), front disc brakes, impact sensing door unlock and anti-pinch power windows. Hyundai Verna comes in two diesel and two petrol variants. The 1.6-litre diesel version delivers a power level of 126 BHP while 1.4-litre fitted variant produces 89 BHP. On the other hand, petrol versions of Hyundai Verna churn out 105 BHP (1.4-litre) and 121 BHP (1.6-litre).

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is an excellent car but it is slightly below Hyundai Verna in most aspects. However, the aggressive pricing and mileage of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz could help the car to do well in the long run.
