Launched back in 1980, the TVS moped has now achieved the landmark sales over 1 crore units in the Indian market. To celebrate the occasion, TVS Motor Company, has launched the special edition of the two-wheeler – the TVS XL Supers – at Rs. 27,067 (ex-showroom, Chennai). The TVS moped has India’s second two-wheeler to cross the milestone 1 crore mark in sales, the other being the Hero Splendor.
The 2-stroke TVS XL moped has always been known for its reliability and ease-of-use that helped it to build a strong customer base in both rural and urban markets. Though, its sales declined dramatically when govt. banned the 2-stroke vehicles in the country. Despite the ban, the moped managed to find a place in 10 top best selling two wheelers' list.
The Special Edition TVS XL Supers received a few cosmetic alterations such as a chrome-finished grab rail, a dual texture seat with stitch lines, exhaust guard with a 1 crore celebration sticker and other special graphics. This edition is available with two new color options – Titanium Grey and Silver Grey.
Powering the new TVS XL Supers is a 70cc 2-stroke air-cooled engine that churns out a maximum power of 3.5bhp at 5, 000rpm, while yielding a peak torque of 7Nm at 3, 750rpm. This engine is mated with a one-speed transmission. The heavy duty variant gets a removable pillion seat. The Special Edition TVS XL Supers will be sold in select markets, including Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and parts of Karnataka.
